Line of the Day: Matt Garza

Posted on 13 April 2012 by Daniel Aubain

April 12, 2012: Matt Garza of the Chicago Cubs pitched 8 2/3 innings of masterful baseball in leading his team to an 8-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. He struck out nine and allowed just three hits and two walks, retiring 15 of 16 hitters at one point during the game.

Line: 8.2 IP | 3 H | 0 ER | 2 BB | 9 K; W (1-0) | QS

My fantasy perspective: Garza seems to be performing as the fantasy ace most have hoped he’d become over the years. He’s opened the 2012 season with two solid performances, going 14.2 innings and allowing just eight hits while striking out 14 and walking just three (4.67 K/BB). He’s held opponents to a .160 BAA (Batting Average Against), too.

What was your opinion of Garza heading into your fantasy baseball drafts this offseason? With an ADP on Mock Draft Central of 112.35, he was being drafted among other starting pitchers such as Matt Moore (ADP 101.14), Gio Gonzalez (ADP 112.33) and Yu Darvish (ADP 118.24).  Did you invest heavily in any of these pitchers over Garza?
