Line of the Day: Neftali Feliz

Posted on 11 April 2012 by Daniel Aubain

Neftali Feliz pitched seven shutout innings in his first major league start as the Texas Rangers held on to a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Feliz allowed four hits, two walks and struck out four. His previous 154 appearances were all in relief, compiling 72 saves in 81 opportunities since 2010.

My fantasy perspective: Feliz’s status as a starting pitcher going into the 2012 season caused his fantasy baseball value to be sort of a wildcard. Could the once dominant closer transition to a starter and still be successful? Tonight’s start is a very positive step in the right direction, for sure. But let’s wait until he faces a more potent offense than Seattle. He’ll have another very favorable matchup against the Minnesota Twins on April 15th, so look for him to build upon this strong first start.

I avoided Feliz in all four of my drafts but he could have been had at a very reasonable draft position. Mock Draft Central recently had his ADP at 169.32 while ESPN leagues had it at 154.9. Did you take a chance on him in your leagues? If so, how are you feeling about this transition with his first successful outing under his belt?
