Barry Zito pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies in Denver. It was his first shutout since 2003 and gave the Giants their first victory of 2012.

My fantasy perspective: So, Zito did something to get noticed by fantasy baseball owners and it wasn’t something negative. Up until this very moment, he shouldn’t have been on anyone’s radar during a single draft or auction and now he’ll probably be flying off the waiver wires of your leagues.
Zito was owned in 0.5% of all ESPN leagues when I started writing this post and it’s now up to 1.2% just a short time later. His next start will be at home versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hmm, that might not be such a bad spot start, right? Wrong. He’s 1-3 in five career starts with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP, allowing 31 hits in 29 innings pitched with 10 walks and 20 strikeouts. If you’re trolling the waiver wire this early for guys like Zito, you’ve got bigger problems than you’re willing to admit.
